‘KA’ brings us great joy: Directors Sujith and Sandeep

Must Read

Young talent Kiran Abbavaram’s period thriller “KA” recently hit theaters and has quickly become a massive success, earning the title of Diwali winner at the box office. As a fresh take on the thriller genre, “KA” is receiving widespread acclaim from viewers. Directors Sujeeth and Sandeep expressed their happiness over the film’s success in a recent interview.

Director Sujith said:

“I am incredibly happy to see the response to ‘KA.’ Words can’t express how we feel. We believed that we could succeed only if we put in the effort, and that’s why we made this film with determination. The audience delivered the results we hoped for. This Diwali was particularly special for us, and our family members were overjoyed. Kiran treated us like brothers, managing everything from production to the end, which took the pressure off us.

The audience gave a standing ovation at the end of the film. We initially worried about how the audience would receive our story, but it seems they have connected deeply with it. We had no industry contacts; I came from an advertising background, while Sandeep was focused on his work. As brothers, I have a passion for storytelling, and I wanted to share something new with the audience. The excitement around ‘KA’ grew as we developed the story, boosting our confidence.

I believed that setting the story in a period backdrop would add to its appeal. Today, privacy is nearly nonexistent, and everything is exposed on social media. In contrast, there was a time when one could only learn about others’ lives through letters. This inspired us to create a postman character for the hero. We chose the village of Krishnagiri for its unique characteristics; I read that it experiences darkness in the afternoon, which we adapted into the story. This backdrop added to the film’s excitement.

We structured the story from the climax, ensuring that every point was justified in the script. The music by Sam CS was a major highlight, enhancing the film’s overall experience. We believe that hiring Sam was one of our best decisions.

Going forward, our films will focus on strong content, unique narratives, and innovative ideas. We are considering a prequel to ‘KA’ that will explore the background of Krishnagiri village and the reasons behind its uniqueness.”

Director Sandeep added:

“The audience’s response to ‘KA’ is immensely satisfying. Whenever negative feedback appears on social media, the audience is quick to defend us. Sujith and I often critique our scripts. Sujeeth handled the scripting for ‘KA,’ while I focused on execution. In light of ‘KA’s’ success, we want to thank the audience, Kiran, our producer Gopalakrishna garu, and distributor Vamsi garu.

The premise is crucial for any story, and we ensured this for ‘KA.’ Typically, we categorize audiences into A, B, and C segments. We thought the film would resonate well with multiplex audiences but were surprised to find that the C-center audience is responding even more favorably. Seeing houseful boards at theaters is a fantastic feeling, and we’re thrilled with the response across AP and Telangana.

Kiran treated us like brothers and provided tremendous support, which was vital to our success. We gained confidence when distributor Vamsi Nandipati joined our project; we felt our film was in safe hands, and his suggestions were invaluable. When we met music director Sam CS in Chennai and shared our story, he predicted success not only in Telugu but across all languages.

Many have praised the graphic work in ‘KA.’ However, I believe that graphics should enhance the story naturally rather than just being visually striking.

The audience’s response to ‘KA’ has been very positive, and media reviews have also been encouraging, though they come from various perspectives. Some critics mentioned that the film lacks certain commercial elements, but our aim was to present the story authentically. We are committed not just to releasing the film but to ensuring it reaches the audience effectively.

As Director Rajamouli has said, a good subject, not just a high budget, can elevate films to an international level. We will strive to make our upcoming projects innovative.”
